Huddersfield entrepreneur Gareth Henderson will tackle some of the world’s toughest terrain on two wheels this autumn in an effort to beat modern slavery.
The founder of Huddersfield based facilities management businesses Orchard FM and FM Energy will join a handful of fellow corporate supporters of anti-slavery charity Hope for Justice for a 377km extreme bike ride across Vietnam.
Extreme Challenge Vietnam aims to raise thousands of pounds through sponsorship to support the work of Hope for Justice. The cyclists will also see first-hand how the charity is making a difference, exploring and visiting Hope for Justice projects in the Phnom Penh area.
Gareth is no stranger to charity bike rides but he admitted this would be his biggest challenge to date, setting off on October 27 and cycling from Phnom Penh to Ho Chi Minh City in hot and humid temperatures.
“It’s a gruelling route but this is a cause that’s very close to my heart and I am looking forward to doing my bit to support the charity’s fundraising efforts as well as helping to raise awareness of the vital work carried out by Hope for Justice to eliminate human trafficking and exploitation,” he said.
Orchard FM is a founder member of the Slave Free Alliance, an initiative by the charity to encourage businesses to tackle modern slavery in their supply chain.
Gareth is also involved with Hope for Justice on a strategic level, working closely with the charity’s leaders to improve systems and processes to make the organisation as effective and efficient as possible.
Gareth said: “I am a strong believer in the power of partnerships and my businesses have always enjoyed a strong relationship with Hope for Justice, helping the charity manage its operational costs and supporting its work in a practical way.
“I am proud to be part of a small team of dedicated corporate champions who will be pushing themselves to the limit to raise money to prevent vulnerable people from traffickers, rescue victims, offer restorative care and campaign actively for change,” he said.
Extreme Challenge Vietnam will set off from Phnom Penh on October 27 aiming to reach Ho Chi Minh City on November 5.
