“Thanks to our relationship with Orchard Facilities Management we have a modern and scalable IT and communications infrastructure that keeps our teams connected and means we have the best possible systems for accessing information easily and securely.” Tom Taylor, Northorpe Hall Child and Family Trust
About Northorpe Hall
Northorpe Hall Child and Family Trust supports the mental and emotional health of children and young people aged 25 and under in Kirklees. The charity is there to offer them and their families caring, flexible and effective mental and emotional health services. Services include telephone support, talking therapies, group activities and individual goal-setting programmes and the service is designed to be as easy as possible for young people to access, with workers available evening and weekends. Northorpe’s counsellors and mentors meet them in the home, in community buildings, schools and other locations depending on the needs of each individual. The charity receives hundreds of requests for support every month and at any one time is supporting around 400 children.
The charity is innovative in fundraising. The Northorpe Barn is a the charity’s trading company which operates as a venue and events business. The 16th century hall’s refurbished barn and gardens are available for hire for meetings, conferences, events and celebrations, including weddings. Income from room hire and events supports the charity. Grants and donations provide further financial support and Northorpe Hall has plans to launch a number of corporate fundraising initiatives in the near future.
Orchard and Northorpe
Orchard Facilities Management has been providing IT support to Northorpe Hall in Mirfield since 2014. Strategic work has included planning and installing a VoIP telephone system, networking and wi-fi connectivity throughout the site. As the charity has grown and developed its services for children and families, Orchard FM has provided IT managed services, backup and restore service and ongoing technical consultancy.
With the charity’s specialists working in different locations, it is important that everyone can access the information they need quickly and securely, wherever they are. One of Orchard Facilities Management’s objectives has been to introduce technology that makes that possible and allows counsellors, mentors and mental health workers to work flexibly and remotely to meet the needs of the young people they support with whilst still being able to access information and interact with one another to maintain excellent communication.
“Our charity has been operating since 1963 and we are continually evolving to make sure the services we offer and the way we operate matches the needs of local young people and families. Managing information safely and effectively, is key to our success. Orchard helps us achieve this so that the charity can demonstrate impact, work effectively and be accountable to funders and partners. We really appreciate the open and honest relationship we have with Orchard and their understanding of our cost restraints and necessity to make every penny count.” Tom Taylor
IT support for growth
Orchard Facilities Management has been the Trust’s IT partner for the past four years, offering advice on telecoms and networking and keeping their systems running smoothly on a day to day basis.
During that time the Trust has expanded significantly and the space at Northorpe Hall has gradually been developed and refurbished to support an even wider range of services for children and families.
Orchard has developed a strong partnership with Northorpe Hall and a proactive role in the charity’s development. We have worked with them through refurbishment to make sure they continued to operate effectively during construction works.
“Nationally and locally, many young people experience anxiety, feeling low and even suicidal thoughts. Many have supportive adults around them who can help. Where extra help is needed, Northorpe Hall provides young people and families with trained, experienced staff and volunteers, to listen, provide reassurance and help them manage those thoughts and feelings. Nine out of ten children who access our services say things have improved following support and our clinical assessments show improvements for four out of five young people. We know what we do works and is cost effective and it’s clear that the need for mental health support is high. We are concerned that many young people are not getting the help they need and we are committed to helping as many families as possible in Kirklees.” Tom Taylor
“Northorpe Hall is a fantastic local resource and it has been a real privilege to work closely with them as they have developed the site and their services for children and families in recent years to meet growing demand for mental health support amongst young people and their families. Our focus is always to find the most cost-effective and streamlined IT solution to make their lives easier and to plan a scalable infrastructure that can grow with them.” Neil Ewing, Orchard Facilities Management
